About this tool

The PDF Text Extractor pulls all readable text from a PDF file and displays it as plain text you can copy, edit, or use anywhere. It works on searchable PDFs (those with actual text layers) and handles multi-page documents, extracting all pages at once. Common uses: copying text from a PDF you cannot select (due to column layouts), extracting content for editing in Word or Google Docs, pulling data from PDF reports for analysis, and making PDF content searchable or indexable.

How to use

  1. Select or drop your file in the tool panel above.
  2. Adjust any options if provided.
  3. Download or copy the output.

FAQ

Why does extracted text sometimes have strange line breaks?

PDFs store text as positioned characters, not as flowing paragraphs. The extractor reads the text layer exactly as stored. Two-column PDFs often have broken lines because the left and right columns are interleaved in the PDF's internal structure.

Can it extract text from scanned PDFs?

Only if the PDF contains a text layer from OCR (optical character recognition). A purely image-based scanned PDF has no text layer — it is just a picture. To extract text from a scanned PDF, you need OCR processing first.

Is my PDF file kept private?

Yes. The PDF is processed entirely in your browser. It is never uploaded to any server.

Can I extract text from a password-protected PDF?

Not without the password. Remove password protection first using your PDF viewer, then extract the text.
