About this tool

The IP Address Lookup tool finds geographic and network information for any IPv4 or IPv6 address. Enter any IP address to see its approximate location (country, region, city), Internet Service Provider (ISP), organisation, timezone, and coordinates. Your own IP address is shown automatically when you open the tool.

Understanding the result

  • IP geolocation is approximate — it shows the location of the ISP's server infrastructure, not the physical location of the device using that IP. Accuracy varies: country is almost always correct, city is accurate within 25–50 miles for most IPs.
  • VPN and proxy IPs show the VPN server location, not your actual location.
  • ISP vs Organisation: ISP is the internet provider (e.g. Comcast, BT, PTCL). Organisation may be a business or data centre that leases the IP block from the ISP.
  • IPv4 vs IPv6: IPv4 addresses are the traditional format (192.168.1.1). IPv6 is the newer format (2001:db8::1) used as IPv4 addresses run out.

FAQ

How accurate is IP geolocation?

Country-level accuracy is 95–99%. City-level accuracy is typically within 25–50 miles for residential IPs. Business and data centre IPs may show the city of the ISP's headquarters rather than the actual server location.

Can I look up my own IP address?

Yes — your current IP is shown automatically when you open the tool. This is the IP address that websites and servers see when you connect.

Why does my IP show the wrong location?

Several reasons: you may be using a VPN (showing VPN server location), your ISP may route traffic through a different city, or the geolocation database may be outdated. Geolocation databases are updated regularly but are never 100% accurate.

What is the difference between a public and private IP address?

Public IPs are visible on the internet and routable globally (e.g. 203.0.113.1). Private IPs are used within local networks and not routable on the public internet (192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x, 172.16–31.x.x). This tool looks up public IPs only.

Can I look up IPv6 addresses?

Yes. Enter any valid IPv6 address in the input field. IPv6 geolocation database coverage is growing but may be less detailed than IPv4 for some regions.
